Dottie Potts weighed more than 300lbs since her teenage years, and suffered a number of tragedies throughout her life that encouraged bad eating habits. Thankfully, her most recent updates on Facebook suggest she has turned her life around.
Her appearance on the My 600lb Life reality show helped her kickstart her weight loss journey. Now she looks worlds away from her former self.
How Dottie Got to Her Current Weight
When Dottie gave birth to her son Daniel, she weighed over 350 lbs. She had to take care of Daniel for a year, and during this time her emotional eating began to spiral out of control.
Dottie joined ‘My 600-lb Life’ as she was desperate to lose the weight she had gained from her son’s cerebral palsy. She had a hard time losing weight on her own, and after a year of struggling, she tipped the scales at 520 pounds.
After she was hospitalized and put on a controlled diet, she lost 72 pounds. Then, she was approved for surgery.
However, she had to wait a month before the surgery took place. Dottie had a health scare for her son, and she had to give up on her diet for a while. She returned to Dr. Now, and he told her she needed to lose another 40lbs before the surgery could take place.
Her Weight Loss Journey
For a while, Oxford, Mississippi native Dottie Potts topped the charts in the weight loss department. The My 600-lb Life star weighed in at around 641 pounds when she first made the television screen rounds. It was a long and bumpy ride to the promised land for this diehard shopper who wanted more of the good stuff and less of the bad. With the help of her savior of the moment husband Chris and some major ole fashioning, she is a much fitter, healthier and happier version of her former self. Dottie has been able to maintain her newfound fitness regime, and it has been the envy of her friends. She still has a few more miles to travel, but she is well on her way to achieving her long term weight loss and health goals.
Her Post-Surgery Weight Loss
A Mississippi native, Dottie weighed in at an impressive 669 pounds when she first popped up on My 600-lb Life, and she’s since lost over 271 of those kilos. Her latest weight loss milestone comes courtesy of a gastric bypass surgery performed in Texas by Dr. Younan Nowzaradan.
Despite her surgical success, it appears Dottie is still dealing with the specter of losing her son Daniel, who died of cerebral palsy in 2016 at the tender age of 13 years old. She has been forced to make some lifestyle changes in order to get her life on track, including moving out of the house and into a hotel with her new hubby. She also has a new set of fitness goals to work towards, such as getting down the stairs, and hitting the gym to ring in the new year. It’s a tough time for a mom who has just lost the man of her dreams, but Dottie is determined to make it through this dark time with her family by her side.
Her Life After My 600-lb Life
The My 600-lb Life star Dottie Perkins (now Potts) has had her ups and downs during her time on the show, but it appears she’s made a big turn for the better. Based on her most recent health updates on Facebook, it’s clear she has managed to maintain a much healthier lifestyle.
After weighing more than 300 pounds for years, Dottie began her weight loss journey by following the advice of Dr. Nowzaradan, who is the medical director of My 600-lb Life.
Her weight eventually dropped to under 300 lbs, but it was not a smooth ride for Dottie, as she had to undergo hospitalization several times. She also experienced a lot of heartache during her weight loss journey, including the death of her 13-year-old son who had cerebral palsy and scoliosis.
Despite losing her son, Dottie has continued to work hard on her weight loss. She’s still under contract with the My 600-lb Life production company, and she’s currently trying to lose another 50 lbs before returning to Texas in September for skin-removal surgery.
