Does Ozempic Go Bad If Not Refrigerated?

Ozempic (semaglutide) is an injectable medicine used to help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. It works in a similar way to insulin and other diabetes medicines.

Like other insulin and diabetes medications, Ozempic must be refrigerated when it’s not being used. Unopened pens should be kept at fridge temperatures between 36degF and 46degF (2degC – 8degC).

Temperature

If not refrigerated, ozempic may start to lose its effectiveness after 56 days. It can also begin to lose its effectiveness if exposed to temperatures higher than 86degF (or 30degC).

If you have any questions about the storage of your Ozempic pen, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. They can help you store your medication properly and advise you on when to dispose of it.

When storing your ozempic, use a sharps disposal container that is made of heavy-duty plastic and has a tight-fitting, puncture-resistant lid. It should be stable, leak-proof, and labeled to warn of hazardous waste.

When you discard your ozempic, write the date on the container so that you don’t forget. You can use this container for other medications, as well. You should always follow the proper disposal procedures in your community.

Light

Ozempic, a drug approved by the FDA to treat diabetes and obesity, has become wildly popular for its off-label use. This medication works by binding to GLP-1 receptors, causing your stomach to digest food slower and making you feel fuller for longer.

It can also lower blood sugar and reduce your appetite. It’s a great choice for people who want to lose weight and keep it off.

When you’re using an ozempic pen, you should always remove the needle cap and place it in a sharps container right away after injecting the medicine. This will help to protect the medicine from light and prevent it from getting cloudy or discoloured.

Unused ozempic pens are good for up to 56 days if they’re refrigerated from 36degF to 46degF or stored at room temperature from 59degF to 86degF. However, they should be disposed of after this time if they’re not used.

Moisture

If ozempic is left out at room temperature (59degF to 86degF), it can go bad. Even if the medication is not exposed to extreme temperatures, laboratory tests show that it starts losing its effectiveness after 56 days of storage.

Ozempic is a prescription medication used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a group of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists.

It works by binding to GLP-1 receptors and stimulating insulin release, reducing glucagon release, and delaying gastric emptying so food stays in the stomach longer. It also helps control blood sugar levels and may help people lose weight.

Ozempic is injected once a week under the skin (subcutaneously). Your doctor will start you on a low dose, gradually increasing your dosage to 0.5 mg once weekly. After 4 weeks, if you need to lower your blood sugar levels further, your doctor will increase your dosage to 1 or 2 mg once weekly.

Storage

When you get a diabetes medication like ozempic, it’s important to store it correctly. Because this injectable medicine is sensitive to temperature and light, proper storage is crucial to its safety and efficacy.

Ozempic is a weekly injection that can help you manage your type 2 diabetes. It works by regulating hormones that lower blood sugar levels and reduce appetite.

It comes as a cartridge that contains one prefilled pen with 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg or 1mg dose pens and 4 NovoFine Plus needles. Each cartridge can last for up to a month.

Unopened ozempic pens should be stored in a refrigerator between 36degF and 46degF. After first use, they can be kept at room temperature between 59degF and 86degF or placed back into the fridge.

Ozempic will expire after 56 days of usage and should be disposed of properly, even if the medication is still inside the pen. It should also be thrown away if it has been exposed to temperatures above 86degF for extended periods of time.
