Ozempic is a medicine that helps improve blood sugar levels in people with diabetes and lowers their risk of serious cardiovascular problems. It works by regulating hormones that help you feel fuller and increase your metabolism.
Like many injectable medicines, it’s sensitive to high and low temperatures. That’s why it needs to be stored properly.
Room Temperature
If you’re not going to use ozempic for an extended time, you can store it at room temperature. You can keep it for up to 56 days, but you should never leave it at a temperature higher than 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius.
Ozempic is an injectable medicine that can help lower blood sugar levels and improve appetite in people with type 2 diabetes. It works by stimulating insulin release and reducing glucagon release.
It can also make you feel fuller by affecting the way your body absorbs fat. It is part of a group of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists.
Just like Insulin, Victoza, and Trulicity, ozempic needs to be stored properly to ensure it’s safe and effective. This includes keeping it refrigerated and ensuring that it is not exposed to extreme heat or sunlight for long periods of time.
Refrigeration
Ozempic is a weekly injectable drug that regulates hormones that help lower blood sugar levels and control appetite. It’s prescribed to people who have Type 2 diabetes, which is often caused by obesity.
Like many medications, it needs to be stored properly before, during and after use. The first time you use your ozempic pen, you should refrigerate it (between 36degF to 46degF or 2degC to 8degC).
After the first use, you can continue to store it in the refrigerator or keep it at room temperature for up to 56 days. You must discard any ozempic pens that have been in use for more than 56 days, no matter whether they were kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature.
Unopened ozempic pens can be safely left out of the refrigerator as long as they aren’t exposed to light and are stored in a medical-grade container. Stainless steel storage containers are a great option because they are designed to prevent heat and light damage.
Freezer
Ozempic is a medication used to lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. It belongs to a group of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. These medications help you digest food slowly, and they may also reduce your appetite.
The active ingredient in ozempic, semaglutide, is highly sensitive to both high and low temperatures. This means that you must follow strict storage conditions when handling your medication.
When unopened, ozempic needs to be stored in your refrigerator between 36degF and 46degF (2degC to 8degC). Once you’ve opened it, ozempic can either be refrigerated or kept at room temperature below 86degF (30degC) for up to 56 days.
However, it’s not safe to freeze ozempic. This can cause it to degrade and become ineffective. In the event that you do have an ozempic pen that’s been frozen, you should discard it immediately. It should never be frozen again. Always speak with your health care professional for more information about storing and disposing of your ozempic.
Disposal
The ozempic pen you use should be disposed of (thrown away) after 56 days, whether it’s kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature. It should be thrown away even if it has some medication still in it, because laboratory tests have shown that the medicine loses its effectiveness after 56 days.
Ozempic is also highly sensitive to heat, and you should never store it in the refrigerator next to the cooling element or freeze it. The freezing process will denature the ozempic liquid and it will no longer be effective.
When transporting unopened ozempic, it should be refrigerated and stored at 36degF to 46degF (2degC – 8degC) before it’s opened for the first time. It should be protected from light, and disposed of on its expiration date (the date printed on the pen) after 56 days. Always write the disposal date on your calendar so you don’t forget.
