How to Properly Store and Transport Ozempic

As with many injectable diabetes medicines like Victoza, Trulicity, and Insulin, Ozempic is sensitive to high and low temperatures. So, it’s important to follow certain storage guidelines and stick to them to prevent damage.

Unused pens should be stored in the refrigerator (between 36degF and 46degF) until the expiration date printed on them. After that, they can be stored at room temperature between 59degF and 86degF.

How to store it

Ozempic (semaglutide) is an injectable medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes and help people lose weight. It is sensitive to both high and low temperatures. This means that it needs to be properly stored and transported in order to be safe and effective.

Before you use ozempic for the first time, it should be refrigerated between 36degF to 46degF (2degC to 8degC). After the first use, ozempic can be kept refrigerated or at room temperature (between 59degF to 86degF or 15degC to 30degC) for up to 56 days.

Unused ozempic should be disposed of after 56 days, whether kept in the refrigerator or at room temperature. It’s best to write the disposal date on your calendar so you don’t forget.

Dosage

Ozempic is an injectable medication that may help you control your blood sugar. It works by increasing the amount of insulin in your body when you eat, and it also stops your liver from making extra sugar.

Your doctor will start you on a low dose of this medicine and increase it every 4 weeks to 30 days. Follow your doctor’s instructions very carefully.

When you use Ozempic, the medicine is injected into your skin (subcutaneous injection). It should be used once weekly on the same day each week.

The injection is usually given with or without food. You can change the day of weekly injection as long as the time between two doses is at least 2 days (>48 hours).

Ozempic is a GLP-1 agonist medicine. These medicines are used to treat type 2 diabetes and may also help you lose weight. They also reduce the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol.

Injection site

Ozempic is a medication that can help you lose weight and control your blood sugar. It comes in an easy-to-use injector pen that you give yourself weekly. It can also help protect you from heart attacks and strokes, if you have type 2 diabetes.

Injecting the medication correctly is important to get the full dose and to ensure your safety. Make sure to prime your new pen before injecting, use a new needle each time you use it and keep the skin around the injection site clean.

You can inject ozempic into the stomach area, upper arm or thigh. There is no one “best” place to inject the medication, but clinical trials have shown that all injection sites are absorbed similarly.

Rotate injection sites every week to keep the skin healthy and reduce potential skin irritation. You should never inject into a muscle or vein. Instead, choose an area with a layer of subcutaneous tissue that the medication can enter.

Safety

Like most injectable medications, ozempic needs to be stored at the right temperature. It should be refrigerated between 36degF and 46degF until it’s used for the first time. Then it can be left at room temperature (59degF to 86degF) for up to 56 days before disposal.

If you’re traveling to warm destinations, it’s best to store your ozempic injection pen inside a medical-grade travel cooler, which is specially designed to protect temperature-sensitive medicines from extreme heat and light. These coolers are lightweight, portable, and TSA-approved for travel.

You should also remove the pen cap before every injection to shield it from sunlight. After each use, attach a new needle and check the flow of the solution. If the solution changes color or if it contains particles, stop using the pen and dispose of it. You should always discuss any storage or disposal concerns with your healthcare provider. Remember to never inject ozempic that’s expired. It may cause serious side effects.
