Smart Snacking

When we began our weight loss journey, one of our biggest worries was about snacking. We’ve always been snack-a-holics and the thought of giving up our snacks was too much to bear! Luckily, as we began dropping pounds and discovering how a healthy diet fit into our lives, we realized that snacks play an important role in a well-rounded diet plan.

We probably don’t need to tell you this, but one of the most important elements of healthy snacking is keeping fresh fruits and vegetables around all the time. And by all the time, we really mean all the time! Keep an apple in your car in case of a craving and stow some grapes in the fridge at work. When you always have a healthy option around, there’s never a good excuse to go reaching for the candy bars.

Of course, who wants to limit themselves to only fruits and vegetables? Luckily, there are tons of great, healthy snack options available. Keeping portion sizes reasonable and portable is key‚- and www.minimus.biz is a great place to find pre-packaged, on the go food ideas. And as you know, we also love 100 calorie packs and the new Weight Watcher’s snack cakes for when your sweet tooth has a craving.

CookiesAnd what about if you need some home cooked snacking goodness? If you’re not the bake from scratch kind (and believe us, we aren’t always ourselves!), you can modify cookie mixes by substituting a can of pumpkin for the egg and oil.
Or if you’re really a go-getter, you could whip up some healthy Winter Gingersnaps or some Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownies.

The important thing to remember is that you don’t have to feel like you’re giving up something in exchange for a healthy diet‚- finding ways to incorporate the snacks you love into the lifestyle you want is possible!
